Presence of Self Scale: A simple tool for assessing Self-presence

The most powerful tool a therapist has is their own Self-presence. When we are grounded, curious, and compassionate, our clients’ systems naturally feel safe enough to heal. But in the intensity of trauma work, both client and therapist can lose connection to Self without realizing it. This experiential workshop introduces the Presence of Self Scale — a simple, moment-to-moment tool for recognizing when Self-energy is present and when parts are activated. You’ll learn to track internal shifts, identify subtle signs of activation, and restore Self-leadership in real time. Drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and mindfulness-based awareness practices, this training offers a blend of conceptual clarity and embodied experience. Through guided practice, small-group exploration, and live demonstration, participants will deepen their ability to bring more Self to every therapeutic moment.

Syzygy Model Full Session Demo: Healing Protectors

This 90 minute course is a live demonstration on zoom before an audience of over 60 predominantly EMDR trained mental health professionals who observed and supported a beautiful healing session for Jackie (a mental health professional herself), conducted by Bruce Hersey, a leading figure in the integration of IFS and EMDR, specifically as the originator of the Syzygy Model™, which also incorporates a memory reconsolidation perspective from Coherence Therapy. In this session, he aptly demonstrates and teaches this model as he guides Jackie through a deep healing process focused on a compulsively over-responsible helper part that protects against falling into despair, aloneness and grief experienced with the loss of her sister when they were teens in a dysfunctional alcoholic family system. The session is followed by a rich debrief and Q & A with this informed and astute professional audience. Additional teaching points have been edited in, post recording, for enhanced learning.
